Cuddle up in the Bird’s Nest

  • Somewhere in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA, there’s a private residence designed by Brent Kendle that’s called Bird’s Nest. Pretty odd name, or funny if you think about cartoons or Hollywood war movies. Featuring a pure interior, oozing sophistication and elegance this residence and its guiding principles are obviously inspired by mid-century modern architecture.

The Bird’s Nest encompasses a welcomed simplicity of things. The use of natural materials and the seamless relationship of interior to exterior spaces inspire an airy feeling of calm and relaxation. The large open space of the Great Room seems like the pivot of the entire area, and its direct relationship to the adjacent pool terrace supports that idea.
Aside from the visually linked Kitchen and Dining area, the enclosed front courtyard and the pool terrace, there’s actually a room called “birds nest” on the second floor, suggesting that this modern construction does, however, offer the comfort and warmth you need to feel in your own privacy. The site walls are thoughtfully integrated into the landscape design creating serene courtyards, sustaining the idea and desire for a high degree of privacy.
