Which New Movie Trailer Won the Super Bowl?

  • Never mind the game itself — the real excitement from yesterday’s otherwise anti-climatic Super Bowl XLVIII came from the various movie trailers that premiered in between plays. Super-heroic battles, natural disasters and gigantic robotic dinosaurs were all on the menu, but which trailer was the most mind-blowing?

While there were a few high-profile movies missing from the Super Bowl trailer line-up — No Godzilla? No Guardians of the Galaxy? — we were nonetheless treated to a cornucopia of CGI eye-candied thrills, spills and speeding cars.

Marvel went all out with Captain America — in addition to the Super Bowl slot, the studio also released a second trailer for international audiences. But Sony arguably one-upped them with its almost-four-minute-long Amazing Spider-Man 2 sneak peek, managing to mix introducing the movie’s multiple villains with the trademark humor you’d expect from anything with Spidey.

Of course, all that would appear to fade before the sight of Mark Wahlberg running away from Optimus Prime riding a robot dinosaur. With that kind of competition, no wonder Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul raced through his 30-second spot for Need for Speed, while Russell Crowe’s Noah only teased its literally apocalyptic destruction.

Take a second look at the Big Game trailers and then tell us which of them was your favorite in the poll below. Try not to let your fondness for Grimlock and the Dinobots sway your decision too much.
